My Day and My Wishes
Today...Thursday...in Keene, NH:
-I woke up at 4pm.
NO JOKE! I woke up a couple of other times before that, when Eric called to see if I wanted to go to Pizza Hut Lunch Buffet and when Jackie came in looking for the van keys, but I fell right back asleep and didn't fully wake up until 4pm. I have no regrets.
-I ate a LATE lunch.
Eric and I walked over to Taco Bell and grabbed a...um...LATE lunch...since I missed the Pizza Buffet.
-I DIDN'T go back to sleep!
This is where I strayed from my prediction from yesterday. I just kicked it...watched Thursday night TV...hung out and talked to Elisa...you know, just chilled. It was good to have My Name Is Earl and The Office back...but I do miss the Olympics...I have to be honest.
-Dinner at Applebee's.
I'm not PROUD of a Taco Bell/Applebee's day. It's actually a bit embarassing...but sometimes, on days like this, you do what you have to do.
-My Closing Thoughts: My Oscar Wishes
So the Academy Awards are on Sunday, and all of Hollywood is abuzz...I've heard. So without further ado, let me just give you my WISHES for the awards. I don't want to call them PREDICTIONS because I honestly don't think some of them will win. But I want to go on the record as throwing them my support. There's no telling what tide my support could turn.
BEST PICTURE
So yeah...to me, this was the movie of the year. And MUNICH was a close second. The cowboys...I will admit that it was a good movie. But movie of the year? PUH-lease. Even if it does win, I happily throw my support beyind CRASH! For making...um...racism...so accessible. HAHAHAHAHA! Or something like that. Bottom line - it made me think and made for some great discussion and had a collection of INCREDIBLE performances by one of the strongest ensembles I've seen since...like...Shrek 1.
BEST LEADING ACTRESS
She. Was. Amazing. I mean, the acting, the singing, the strumming...Reese packed her performance with it all and I really think she deserves the statue. SO GIVE IT TO HER ALREADY!
BEST LEADING ACTOR
Another performance that packs acting and singing and strumming into a revelation! And I hate when people say, 'Jaoquin could win but it went to a biopic last year with Jamie Foxx, so he probably won't.' WHY are we comparing year to year? Who gave the best performance? I vote Jaoquin.
BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS
So, since these are MY wishes, I can make the rules. And I VOTE that this year, there be a TIE between supporting women. Michelle Williams, to me, was HANDS DOWN the best performance of Brokeback Mountain. I had never paid attention to her before - but in this film, she broke my HEART! And then Amy Adams in Junebug. For those of you that only know her from Drop Dead Gorgeous, you gotta see her in Junebug. She's made this simple character so complex...and I think she deserves a statue for the star turn. I am PRETTY sure the Academy will listen to me on this 'TIE' thing. I've got a good feeling.
BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR
I know - there is all this talk about George Clooney (because he's nominated for 3 things and he 'has' to win in one...so probably this one) and about Paul Giamatti (for being 'snubbed' last year for Sideways)...but NEITHER of them made a turn this year that made me think and feel and react as much as Matt Dillon's role in CRASH did. It was simply stellar...and screams for an Oscar.
BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY
I mean, the way this film makes you feel and makes you think and how it is constructed...really. It's ORIGINAL, people. And that is the category.
BEST ADAPTED SCREENPLAY
This was actually one of my FAVORITE films of the year. It was so smart...and although I thought it would be very POLITICAL to one side, I was amazed at how it actually almost made me feel for BOTH sides of the issue. What a job they did adapting this for the big screen. And let's be honest...how HARD can it be to 'adapt' a short story? OH DAMN!
BEST DIRECTOR
Now normally, I'm the first person to say that whatever wins BEST PICTURE should also win BEST DIRECTOR...since, you know, how would it win the picture award without the director. BUT - I think this is one of the exceptions where the 2 can differ. Why? Um...well...because I'm making the rules. HAHAHAHA! I just really think that in MUNICH, Spielberg delivered such a solid movie that I think is very IMPORTANT, as well. Just when I thought I had seen all the tricks Spielberg can pull in a movie, I sat down and watched MUNICH and was blown away.
There you go! If you want to know my thoughts on all the other categories, just give me a shout and let me know. You KNOW I'll give you my opinion. And note: I vote PARADISE NOW for Best Foreign Film. We'll see how it goes.
Shows tomorrow. These PERFORMANCES are sure getting in the way of my relaxing.
Back to report later.
Have a GREAT Friday!

From Suanne:
Matt - I understand you get to make all the rules - but your best actor? Did you NOT see Capote?
To Suanne:
I DID see Capote...and I hated it. I gave it like a 4 or something on the MASE. I hated his voice - I thought the movie would never end - and I felt like it was so OVER-hyped. NOT a fan.
But how about Jaoquin? PRETTY dern amazing.
From Suanne:
